My first experience of ‘proper’ outdoor climbing was in Cyprus and since then, I’ve loved being out on the rocks. The UK has arguably some of the best climbing in the world with the range of rock types to explore, utilising both sport and trad climbing techniques.
There are also many indoor centres in the UK which provide a great opportunity to learn the ropes (oops, pun alert) and try out new skills. In terms of qualifications in climbing, the Mountain Training Association are leaders in outdoor activity awards and provide the frameworks I intend to work towards!
Qualifications and Remit
No formal civilian qualification
*** I am qualified through the military adventurous training scheme as a Rock Climbing Supervisor, which is almost equivalent to Rock Climbing Instructor in the Mountain Training Association scheme. This is the qualification I am currently working towards obtaining to be able to teach groups. ***

Outdoor Climbing Partner – FREE
There is an obvious difference between indoor climbing and actually being out on the rock. Exposure to the elements, less obvious foot/hand placements and the increased risk are but a few. My preference is outdoor, sport lead climbing, though I can be an effective second on trad climbing routes. Effectively, I’m offering myself out as a climbing partner to those UK based climbers or anyone abroad who has somewhere to show off and maybe feature on my blog! Please get in touch to discuss potential dates.
